Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn said Wednesday that an employment fund launched last year to help create jobs for young adults brings hope to the young generation.
"The Youth Hope Fund brings strength and courage to our youth," Hwang said in a luncheon meeting with nine people who have consistently donated to the fund.
More than 100,000 people have chipped in, drawing more 135 billion won (US$109 million) in donations, officials said.
The Prime Minister's Office said the government plans to create 6,300 new jobs for young people this year with the fund's revenue.
In September, President Park Geun-hye launched the fund to help create jobs for young people as youth unemployment has become a serious social problem in Asia's fourth-largest economy.
The unemployment rate for people between the ages of 15 and 29 reached a record 9.2 percent in 2015, up from 9 percent tallied a year earlier and the highest level since 1999.
